What You'll Walk Out With

Our goal on October 10

By 4 PM Eastern you'll be able to identify the four OCD presentations you're currently missing, and run the metacognitive protocol in sequence from first session to last.

Those presentations are relationship OCD, sexual orientation OCD, harm OCD and existential OCD. They rarely get named as OCD, they get treated as generalized anxiety for months, and they are where the metacognitive model does its most obvious work.

That includes the two clients you already have. The one who refuses ERP, and the one who did all of it correctly and didn't get better.

Here's exactly how we'll get there.

How the Day Runs

1

The model, quickly

The CAS, metacognitive beliefs, detached mindfulness, attention training. Forty minutes to put the whole room on the same page, so the cases that follow land instead of washing over you.

2

The sequence, out loud

Shang walks through her own order of operations across real cases. Session one she did this, session two this, session three this. What comes first, what she does when the client pushes back, what tells her it's time to move on. You leave with a procedure you can follow, rather than a set of ideas you admire.

3

Live demonstration

Shang in the therapist's chair, working with a volunteer in front of the whole group. Everything happens in plenary, so you spend the time watching the exact thing you're paying to learn.

Is This Your Saturday?

You'll get a lot out of this if…

  • ✓You see OCD in your caseload and the usual protocol keeps stalling
  • ✓You have a client who won't start ERP, or who finished it and stayed the same
  • ✓You suspect some of your "generalized anxiety" cases are something else
  • ✓You've read about MCT and want to watch someone do it before you try it
  • ✓You learn by watching the work rather than reading the manual

You'll get less out of it if…

  • →You need the hours to count toward licensure. This carries no CE credit.
  • →You want a credential. The certificate records attendance.
  • →You want a small group with personal supervision. This is a full room.
  • →You already train in MCT at institute level. You know this material.

What You Get

  • ✓Six hours live with Shang on Saturday October 10, so you can ask about the case you're stuck on while she's still in front of you
  • ✓The full recording for four weeks, so you can go back to the demonstration once you've tried it in your own room
  • ✓Certificate of attendance signed by Shang, for your own records and your supervisor's
  • ✓Written Q&A throughout. A host reads the questions out and groups the repeats, so the session keeps moving and your question still gets answered

Why "Level II" Is the Part That Matters

The MCT Institute® was founded and is run by Professor Adrian Wells, who originated metacognitive therapy, together with Professor Hans Nordahl. It has trained just over 500 practitioners across more than 20 countries, and its Masterclass is the only training that confers the protected title MCTI® Registered.

The institute says plainly on its own site that demand has outpaced supply, and that people are now teaching MCT without recognised training — some without a health qualification at all. Which is the reason to check who is standing at the front of the room before you pay for a workshop.

Shang sits above that line, and chairs the institute's Danish body.

You Won't Be the First English Speaker in the Room

The interpretation is the part you're right to wonder about. These are the trainers who've been on the other side of it.

★★★★★

Olmo is AMAZING! We had an 8-hour workshop (over 2 days) and he kept up with every word. His comfort and flexibility with both Spanish and English allow him to do terrific work. He is friendly and easy to work with. I give him my strongest recommendation!

Jonathan S. Abramowitz, PhD, ABPPProfessor of Psychology and Neuroscience, UNC Chapel Hill · Director, Anxiety and Stress Disorders Clinic · Past President, ABCT · Scientific Advisory Board, International OCD Foundation

★★★★★

Olmo provided simultaneous translation from English to Spanish for 2 full days for an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy online training. I honestly don't know how he kept up, but he did an amazing job. How do I know? Because the questions and comments from the attendees perfectly followed what I was teaching.

Sonja Batten, PhDACT trainer

Olmo did a fantastic job translating my course! I was able to go through my talk smoothly without ever thinking that I was being translated. I highly recommend him!

Matthieu Villatte, PhDTrainer and author

Olmo is one of the best interpreters I have worked with for a training course. His familiarity with psychological language and expert translation skills are outstanding. I would work with him again in a heartbeat!!!

Lizz Dexter-Mazza, PsyDDBT trainer

I have worked with Olmo multiple times, and he is one of the absolute best translators available. Highly recommended!

Included With Registration

The 2023 Archive

Shang has taught two full workshops for our community before, in English, and registrants get streaming access to both from the day you pay through November 7. Eight hours covering the model, case formulation, the attention training technique delivered as she delivers it to a client, and the belief work. You arrive on October 10 already fluent in how she works, instead of spending the first hour catching up.

Streaming only, on our private platform, and access closes November 7. These are her recordings and that's the arrangement we have with her.

What's the Investment?

$197

One payment. Card or PayPal balance, no account needed.

Comparable specialty trainings in the US run $300 to $500. One OCD referral you'd previously have sent elsewhere covers it.

All sales final. Registration closes Friday, October 9. The 2023 archive and the workshop recording both close November 7.

Questions People Ask First

Do I need to know MCT already?+

No. The first block covers the model from the ground up, and it's built for therapists who know CBT well and MCT barely. If you've never read Wells, you'll still follow the cases. The 2023 archive is there for the same reason.

Does this carry continuing education credit?+

It doesn't. Nothing here counts toward licensure hours in any US state. The certificate records that you attended a six-hour training with Shang Olsen, and that's all it claims.

Will I understand it? Isn't this a Spanish-language event?+

Shang teaches in English, so you're getting the original rather than a translation. Most of the room is in Latin America and hears her through live interpretation.

What that means in practice: the pace is a little slower than a US-only training, and some questions arrive in Spanish. It's also the reason you're paying $197 for six hours with someone at this level.

I do the interpreting. Jon Abramowitz, Sonja Batten, Caleb Lack, Lizz Dexter-Mazza and Matthieu Villatte have all taught through me — their comments are further up this page.

What if I can't make the whole day?+

The recording is yours for four weeks, so you can catch what you missed and rewatch the demonstration. Live is better — that's where your question gets answered — but nobody loses the material.

Will there be breakout rooms?+

No. Everything happens in plenary with Shang demonstrating. You won't be sent off to role-play with another attendee while someone circulates between rooms.

How do questions work with a room this size?+

They come through the chat. A host reads them out and groups the repeated ones, which means the common questions get answered properly and nobody can take the session on a twenty-minute detour.

What's the refund policy?+

All sales are final. The 2023 archive opens to you the moment you pay, so the bulk of what you're buying is in your hands before October 10 arrives.

If you're unsure whether this fits your practice, write to me first and I'll tell you honestly. I'd rather talk you out of it now than take your money.

Registration Closes Friday, October 9

Six Hours. One Saturday.

The next time this material is taught in English to a group this size, it won't be at this price.
